Nasty Surprises

Nasty Surprises If someone had told you in January 2008 that energy prices would almost double in a year, with the greater part of the increase occurring during the summer months, would you have believed them?

In April 2010 prices began to rise sharply again, where will that end?

Energy bills were once a source of marginal concern for many but have now become a major hurdle in terms of cost – benefit justification.

Energy prices almost doubling in 12 months in real terms, has caused difficulties for many industries and small businesses.

Anxious business people have flocked to the markets trying to find an energy contract price which looked sensible, a price which would leave their businesses able to operate efficiently albeit under an increased burden. Now of course many of those individuals regret signing a long term contract in the face of recent reductions in market prices. Many other experienced business people have made verbal agreements which have come as a nasty surprise when they finally get the terms confirmed in writing. Our humble advice is not to enter a verbal agreement under any circumstances.

Wholesale or trade energy prices do fluctuate, sometimes several times in a day, but the fact is that over longer periods energy prices have always risen. Therefore, do not be too concerned if you feel that you committed yourself at the wrong moment, for certainly within 12 or 18 months you will probably feel differently.

Whatever your circumstances or those of the business that you are in, you will of course have the same tiresome re-negotiation at the end of your contract term. You will of course have to remember to terminate your contract in writing during your “termination window”, these “windows” vary dramatically with every supplier. Failure to terminate correctly gives the energy company concerned, the right to renew your contract unilaterally, for up to three years at a price that they choose.

Using revolutionary software, Cheaper Business Energy covers the whole processs for you automatically, and simultaneously requests tenders from the Suppliers, providing you with the results in an easy to read analysis. When you have made your choice we check that the agreement documentation from the supplier is consistent with the offer made.
