Letter of Authority

A letter of Authority is the means by which you instruct us to act on your behalf.

This document is important because under the data protection act you have a right to confidentiality. Therefore suppliers will insist on seeing it before they give us the basic information about your account such as:

  • Confirming that your Mpan or Mpr number is correct
  • Confirming what you are being charged, and how many units you are using per annum.
  • When your existing contract ends.
  • Whether any price rises are planned.

Obviously, all this information is necessary for us if we are to begin the tendering process.

The document also grants us the right to terminate your existing contract if we believe that you are likely to be the victim of a rollover. For those of you unacquainted with the term this means that if you have missed the termination window, you can be re-contracted for up to three years on terms that you will have no part in agreeing. This unilateral action by suppliers is standard practice in the energy supply industry.
